Supplemental Treatment
The success of dental implant placement depends on the condition of your oral health before the procedure begins. Dental implants owe their favorable outcome to the biological healing process called osseointegration. However, when tooth loss goes untreated, it causes your jawbone to deplete.
When this occurs insufficient bone density won’t allow for osseointegration to take place, hindering the entire dental implant process. Furthermore, unhealthy gums and teeth can lead to multiple complications and recurring problems that can ultimately lead to implant failure.
Empty gaps that are left untreated can also lead to a shift in teeth and can cause your teeth to become loose and fall out. If your jaw has suffered as a result of tooth loss, Dr. Pham will make sure that your gums are strong enough for dental implant placement.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is a fairly simple outpatient procedure that helps regenerate your bone and reverse the effects of jawbone depletion. During a bone graft, we place new bone tissue around the depleted area in your jaw. The bone graft then encourages growth, causing the jawbone to regenerate itself. Bone grafts help create a stable foundation for the implant.
At Contemporary Dental Arts, we offer three different types of bone graft treatments including:
- Autologous bone graft: The preferred method of bone grafting consists of using bone tissue from another part of your body to help strengthen your jawbone.
- Allograft: When patients aren’t candidates for autologous bone grafts, allograft is often used to create a bone graft from donated bone tissue.
- Synthetic Tissue: With a synthetic tissue, your bone graft is artificially made using either hydroxyapatite or other materials.
