Tooth loss can lead to a lot of unwanted and unwelcome side effects. Eating your favorite foods can become difficult or impossible. Your speech can change in undesirable ways. Further tooth loss can be a side effect of losing teeth. It can even make you think twice before you smile! That is why we at Contemporary Dental Arts are committed to tooth replacement in all its forms. Dental implants are currently the best tooth replacement option available, and here’s why.
What makes dental implants stand out? When considering tooth replacement options, there are a few different choices – so what is it that makes dental implants stand out? Dental implants give you the ability to eat food as you would with your natural teeth because they are allowed to integrate with the structure of your jaw bone. When considering removable prosthesis, you have to remove the prosthesis in order to eat and sleep.
Dental implants also are able to support a single tooth restoration or a multiple tooth restoration like a bridge or even a full arch. They are versatile and able to adapt to the needs of the patient over time. With removable prosthetics or fixed dental bridges, if the conditions in the mouth change the appliance is sometimes rendered useless.
Dental implants are able to provide your mouth with all the positive feedback that a natural tooth would. They encourage healthy bone and soft tissue growth and don’t require special cleaning or care. Just treat them as you would a normal tooth.
The ProcedureDental implants consist of three pieces - the post, abutment, and crown. The post is placed into the bone of the jaw and allowed to heal for between 6 and 9 months. During the healing period, the bone in your jaw will grow into and around the biocompatible titanium post. During this time, we will have our dental lab fabricate the crown (or bridge/full arch) that will complete the implant.
Once the site has been allowed to heal it will be time to have the abutment and crown placed. The abutment is screwed into the post and gives provides a place for the crown to attach to the rest of the implant. The crown is made to look just like a natural tooth, matching the exact color and opacity as the surrounding teeth. We will ensure that the implant fits into your bite, making minor changes and adjustments as is necessary.
The Benefits of Dental ImplantsDental implants give people the ability to eat what they want, speak properly, and continue living their life as they did before tooth loss. Perhaps the biggest difference that dental implants make are the positive improvements to self-esteem. It’s wonderful to be able to smile at someone without having to worry about a missing tooth!
