Caring for Implant Supported Dentures 101

Posted on 5/27/2016 by Keith M. Cooper
An elderly man happy with his new implanted dentures. How do you care for implant supported dentures? Do you know that there is no difference between what you do in the morning and at night for these replacement teeth than you performed for your natural teeth?

Your implants/dentures need just as much care as your natural teeth did if you want to keep them for the duration of your life. If you do not care for them, you put your gums at risk for disease and your implant supported dentures at risk for rejection.

Regular Hygiene

The oral hygiene that you perform at home should remain the same as you performed or should have been performing for your natural teeth. You need to brush your teeth at least twice a day - once in the morning and once at night. If you remove your dentures to clean them, make sure to do this as often as possible to remove any food debris or bacteria that may be residing in the teeth or you put yourself at risk for infection.

Regular Dental Appointments

It is also important to continue to get regular dental checkups and cleanings. Because implant supported dentures are still removable, clips can become loose or other damages can occur that need to be fixed right away to prevent issues from occurring down the road that make your dentures ineffective. Simply keeping up with your biannual checkups can help to keep your dentures and mouth healthy and stable.
