Can Missing Teeth Cause Wrinkles?

Posted on 2/25/2016 by Keith M. Cooper
A man suffering from wrinkles because of a missing tooth! A mouth of missing teeth isn't attractive and can make your face look older. This is because missing teeth can actually cause your face to develop premature wrinkles. Your facial structure and jaw need your teeth in order to achieve proper support, and gaps can result in jaw bone erosion, shifting of your teeth, and sagging.

Consider people that you know who wear dentures. Have you ever seen them without their dentures in place? Their mouths tend to sag, and you'll likely notice a lot of wrinkles around that area. Dentures are certainly a good option for preventing these problems, but it is important that they fit correctly in order to achieve the results that you are looking for.

One of the best things that you can do to prevent wrinkles as a result of tooth loss is to protect your teeth from damage while you still have them. Your jawbone needs your natural teeth, as when you chew, you will stimulate the bone.

After the tooth is lost, this stimulation no longer occurs, and the jaw bone will begin to break down and be reabsorbed into the body. Other negative aspects of missing teeth include trouble speaking, poor lip support, shifting of the remaining teeth, sagging facial features, and TMD.

Losing your teeth is no laughing matter. It is an expensive problem with a variety of side effects ranging from wrinkles to loss of the jaw bone. While preventative care might seem like it is tedious and unnecessary, visiting the dentist regularly is one of the best things that you can do to ensure the health of your natural teeth.

Not only will you be able to avoid some of the troubling problems associated with tooth loss, but you'll also save yourself a ton of money by avoiding the need for expensive restorations and other dental treatments.
