Learn to Enjoy Your Food Again with Dentures

A pair of dentures floating in a glass jar.Learning to eat with dentures can take a little getting used to; you will not be able to dive right in and eat what you want, but with a few new habits, your favorite foods can be consumed again. It is important to give yourself plenty of time to get used to your dentures; do not rush into anything. Give yourself time and have some patience in order to make the best of your new oral health situation.

Chewing Foods
Start off by choosing soft foods that are easy to chew. This will make it easy to figure out what you can and cannot handle. Your dentures, while effective, will make chewing a little different. Take a little bit of time to get used to that feeling with easy to chew foods. As you work your way up into foods that are a little harder to chew, cut them into very small pieces.

This will not only save the integrity of your dentures, but help you to get used to the way that you need to chew in order to stay comfortable. As you continue to work your way back into the foods that you love, make sure that you are using both sides of your mouth to chew in order to keep the dentures balanced and to ensure the comfort of your mouth.

It is best to avoid sticky foods, but if you do want to consume them, go slow, and see what you can handle. You do not want to risk embarrassment while around others, so until you are used to what your dentures can handle, it is best to avoid these foods.
